Welcome to St John's Church, Watford. We are a Church of England parish in the centre of Watford, in the Anglican Diocese of St Albans.
We believe God accepts us all equally, irrespective of race, sexuality, gender, social standing, age, belief or ability and strive to be a community that lives out that belief.
We are a diverse group of people, of different ages, nationalities and social backgrounds. What unites us is a faith in God, his son Jesus Christ and a desire to share that love with those around us through the power of the Holy Spirit, serving our community.
We celebrate the ministry of both women and men, rejoicing that the Church of England ordains people regardless of their gender to be Deacons, Priests and Bishops.
Our worship is sacramental and designed to engage all senses through the use of liturgy, ritual, imagery and incense. At the heart of our worship lies the Eucharist. We believe that only through faithfully celebrating this holy sacrament we as a community can be nourished spiritually and empowered for mission. Following our main service on a Sunday we have refreshments (and usually cake), and every third Sunday we share a delicious parish lunch together. Details of all our services can be found here.
As a parish church we welcome anyone from the community interested in being baptised, getting married or having a funeral in church. Additionally, Fr Corniel provides pastoral support across the parish - regardless of whether you attend our church normally or not. Please get in touch to find out more.
St John’s is a really important part of the community in Watford. The church and school are central to the lives of many residents in the town. Based close to the town centre, but on a residential street, I have often been struck by the many ways in which this prayerful and kind community makes a positive difference in the town.
