At St John's Church, we are delighted to welcome children and adults for baptism. Baptism is the first step on a lifelong journey of Christian faith it is the sacrament for joining the church and incorporation into Christ.
Baptism is sometimes referred to as Christening; they are the same thing just with different names. Baptism can happen at any age although traditionally, in the Church of England, children are baptised at a young age, supported by Godparents.
In baptism, God calls us out of darkness into his marvellous light. To follow Christ means dying to sin and rising to new life with Him.
Baptism is a wonderful time for family and friends to gather to greet a new child and to promise to support and nurture them on life's journey. At Baptism promises are made to raise the child to know that God loves them, and to help them to follow Jesus as a member of the Church.
We believe that God's love is available to all, regardless. If you wish to be baptised or if you wish to bring your child for baptism, please do get in touch.
