The Ark offers a safe and fun Sunday School environment for our younger members (up to aged 8) to learn about our faith. They get involved in a number of activities each week, which typically include arts/crafts and story telling, which are usually related to topical events in the church year. We meet in the parish rooms at 10:30 every Sunday.
Everyone is welcome to The Ark – we look forward to seeing you there!
Art from The Ark
The images below show typical examples that result from these activities.
Christmas
A recent Nativity Play explored the story of Austrian organist Franz Gruber, who in 1818 composed the familiar carol tune for "Silent Night, Holy Night" - it is said that he composed it for guitar, after church mice had nibbled the organ to such an extent that it fell silent just before Midnight Mass.
This banner by the Young Church shows the Christmas night sky, adorned with stars and angels - and all around, naughty mice get ready to nibble!
Candlemas
For Candlemas, our children each made a clay candlestick holder to varying designs...those pictured include a mushroom, crucifix, and star.
Lent and Easter
During Lent our children have been working on Lent and Easter scenes - this one shows the three crosses and before them Christ's tomb, with the stone rolled aside.
Every year our Young Church prepare an Easter Garden with pansies and cress, depicting the scene of Christ's burial and resurrection. The picture above shows the garden in progress, with the stone path leading to Christ's tomb - the cress (grass!) awaits planting.
